Missions in Our Judea

Our current ministry initiatives throughout the state of Texas include disaster relief and our Prison Ministry in partnership with Bill Glass Ministries. We invite you to partner with us as we join together as the Body of Christ with other ministries to help the hurting, lost, and lonley.

Prison Ministry

First Hurst, under the leadership of one our lay people, Fred Meek, has linked arms with the Bill Glass Champions for Life Ministry. Bill Glass founded this ministry over 31 years ago, and today it is the nation's oldest and largest prison evangelism ministry. The mission statement for the ministry is, "Assisting the church in igniting Christians to share their faith." Practically every weekend there is a team of men and women from all over the United States going into pre-selected prisons, sharing their faith, and changing lives. It is a proven fact that the only prison reform that truly works is one that causes people to change their hearts. Who better to do that than our own Lord Jesus? We simply act as His messengers by carrying His message. You may be asking yourself, "Who can participate?" Men and women age 18 or older who have a desire to share the Gospel are welcome. Rookie teammates are required to attend a comprehensive training seminar before the weekend begins. There is no charge to participate. Online schedules are available at the Champions for Life website, or you can watch this brief video about the ministry. Come join us in this exciting ministry. Please contact Fred Meek if you are interested.

Disaster Relief: Texas Baptist Men

Texas Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief is following the example Jesus and offering “a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name.” It is Christian love in action, meeting the urgent needs of hurting humanity in crisis situations with loving care and a timely response. Since 1967, TBM has been involved in training, volunteering, and coordinating efforts in providing prompt assistance to disaster victims in Texas and around the world.

Baptist General Convention of Texas

From its inception in 1886, the BGCT has been actively involved in education and social ministries, as well as evangelism and missions. The BGCT has supported and/or established numerous schools, including Baylor University, the world’s largest Baptist university, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (now operated by the Southern Baptist Convention), currently the largest seminary in the world. The BGCT has assisted in the development of seven hospitals, four children’s homes and five homes for the aged. The Convention also assists in starting hundreds of new churches each year as it strives to share the gospel with every person in the state of Texas.
