Living on Mission
First Baptist Hurst is seeking to be a part of what God is doing all around the world. Our missions strategy is to simultaneously involve the church in reaching our community, state, continent, and the world through prayer, teaching, training, giving, and going. The last command Jesus gave was to go into the nations to make disciples, baptizing and teaching them how to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). Just before Jesus left this earth, He gave His disciples the method to follow.
Acts 1:8 -- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
It's our passion to fulfill this command by sending mission teams and supporting mission efforts on all continents of the world, starting right here in North America. We seek to work in partnership with other missions, pastors, churches, missionaries, and organizations that are seeking to reach the world, with the end being to make disciples in all the earth.
Tarrant County (Jerusalem)
You don't have to travel half way around the world to engage in missions. Partner with us as we fulfill the mandate to minister to the least of these in Tarrant County. Local ministry offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful, long-term ministry initiatives that can transform your community. There are many ministry needs in our own backyards simply waiting for someone like you to hear the call and meet the need. Join us as we minister on a regular basis to the homeless, at-risk children and teens, and international students seeking Him.

Our current ministry initiatives throughout the state of Texas include disaster relief and our Prison Ministry in partnership with Bill Glass Ministries. Partner with us as we join together as the Body of Christ with other ministries to help the hurting, lost, and lonley.
First Hurst, under the leadership of one our lay people, Fred Meek, has linked arms with the Bill Glass Champions for Life Ministry. Bill Glass founded this ministry over 31 years ago, and today it is the nation's oldest and largest prison evangelism ministry. The mission statement for the ministry is, "Assisting the church in igniting Christians to share their faith." Practically every weekend there is a team of men and women from all over the United States going into pre-selected prisons, sharing their faith, and changing lives. It is a proven fact that the only prison reform that truly works is one that causes people to change their hearts. Who better to do that than our own Lord Jesus? We simply act as His messengers by carrying His message. You may be asking yourself, "Who can participate?" Men and women age 18 or older who have a desire to share the Gospel are welcome. Rookie teammates are required to attend a comprehensive training seminar before the weekend begins. There is no charge to participate. Online schedules are available at the Champions for Life website, or you can watch this brief video about the ministry. Come join us in this exciting ministry. Please contact Fred Meek if you are interested.

North America (Samaria)
If you feel God is calling you to stretch your boundaries and get out of your comfort zone, we encourage you to consider one of these North America ministires. No shots are required, but you will definitely experience a world you are not familiar with, and you'll be blessed beyond measure. Our two key focal points for North American missions are Fort Yates, North Dakota, and Piedras Negras, Mexico.
Join us as we minister to the children, teens, and adults living on the Standing Rock Reservation in the Dakotas. We take two trips to North Dakota each year. The first is in early June, when we host two Vacation Bible Schools: one in Fort Yates, and one in Cannon Ball. Our other trip to North Dakota is in early to mid August, when the primary goal is to host an Operation Back to School at the elementary school in Fort Yates. We enjoy building relationships with the faculty, and we continue to strive to find ways to minister to this area. It's a great opportunity to share the love of Christ to the proud and beautiful Native American Indian population in North Dakota. You will be forever changed and blessed.
2018 North Dakota trip dates: June 2-9
Iglesia Bautista La Trinidad De Piedras Negras is the church we team up with in Mexico. This church also has a school serving pre-k through 12th grade.
Over 100 Mexico students will visit us here in Hurst June 21-25. Our team will travel to Mexico to conduct VBS July 22-28.
International (Ends of the Earth)
Do you feel God is calling you to travel to a foreign land and minister to an unreached people group? First Hurst is working toward ministering on every continent, and there are currently active ministry opportunities in West Africa, Russia, Chile, and India. Shots and passports are required, and you need to be prepared to leave some comforts behind, but it is well worth the effort. You will be blessed, and your faith will be strengthened, as you partner with local missionaries and believers to bring light to the darkness.
We believe everyone can have a part in this missions strategy in at least one of the following ways: praying, giving, learning, or going. Certainly the vast majority of our congregation can participate in all of these ways, and all in at least one. When we get God's vision for the world on our hearts, our hearts will be changed forever.
