Ministry to Adults
For those just out of college up to about age 65, our Adult Ministry provides meaningful relationships and a variety of Bible study opportunities in different settings and teaching/learning styles. We also have additional ministry events that focus specifically on men, women, parenting, finances, recreation, etc.
Connections are what we are all about. Life is a precious gift from God not to be wasted, but to be lived with purpose and passion in pursuit of bringing glory and honor to His name. Connection simply carries the idea that God designed us to be in fellowship with other believers. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, He responded by saying, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:37-38) Simply stated, we are to love God and love people! In other words, connection is the stuff of life, and it's what we believe the church should be about, too. The account of the beginning of the early church in Acts 2 shows us that LIFE Connections were taking place at every turn--connections with God, connections with other believers, connections with those that needed Jesus' life changing message.
Connections at First Hurst take place in LIFE Groups. At the Norwood campus, LIFE Connection classes meet Sunday mornings at 9:30am & 11:00am. For our River Trails campus, Home Groups meet at various times throughout the week in local neighborhood homes. Our hope and passion are to see people experience these LIFE Connections. We invite you to come join us in this life journey and get connected! Visit our LIFE Groups page to find a group just for you.
Meeting on Sunday evenings and various times throughout the week, the objective of these discipleship classes is found in Romans 12:1-2, where the Apostle Paul said, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
When you participate in a LIFE Transformation class, our hope is that it will:
- deepen your love for Christ
- equip you to live a life reflective of your faith
- strengthen family & marriage relationships
- train Christians for leadership and missions
- instruct Christians in Biblical understanding
LIFE Transformation discipleship classes are offered during the fall and spring semesters each year. Check out our current offerings.
'njoy Women's Ministry
Our Women's Ministry serves to encourage and motivate women to draw closer to the Lord and to each other. We strive to live in light of Nehemiah 8:10, which tells us, "The JOY of the Lord is our strength!" This ministry to women offers a variety of opportunities throughout the year to deepen your walk with the Lord and also just to kick back and have some fun-- however you spell JOY!
Heart 2 Heart
This ministry focuses on women developing one-to-one friendships. It's built around two scriptures:
- Matthew 18:20 -- For where two or three gather together because they are mine, I am there among them.
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 -- Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; if one falls down, her friend can help her up.
For four months in the fall and four months in the spring, pairs of women meet to encourage each other in homes, parks, restaurants, before church, after work, early in the morning and in the evening all around our area. They share their lives in confidence and support each other in prayer. For more information on this unique and personal ministry, please contact Fran Martin.
Womens' Bible Studies
As part of our LIFE Transformation discipleship classes, we include courses geared specifically to women. Times and childcare availability vary, so be sure to check the latest course offerings.
Overseen by the Preschool Ministry, MOPS is dedicated to the message that "mothering matters," and that moms of young children need encouragement during these critical early years. Our MOPS program helps mothers find friendship and acceptance, provides places for real and open connection, and helps each mom experience God's love through relationships and resources.
Jingle & Mingle
In November of each year, we host a fun-filled night for ladies to help you prepare for the hustle, bustle, and stress of the Christmas season. It's always a great time that helps turn Christmas anxiety into an opportunity for worship.
To find out about these and other 'nJoy Women's Ministry events, please contact Debbie Brooker to be added to the ladies email list.
The Men's Ministry is guided by Paul's challenge to men in I Corinthians16:13-14 -- "Be on guard, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Do everything in love.” Through a variety of events ranging from ManChurch to enjoying the great outdoors, this community of men is committed to:
- becoming servant leaders in our homes, churches, and communities
- growing in Christ and the principles of our faith
- celebrating our uniqueness as men
- being courageous in the face of life's opportunities and challenges
- doing everything out of love for our God and for others
- sharing our life in Christ with one another
- enouraging the next generation
A few times each year the men of First Hurst and scores of guests gather for a unique time of worship specifically for men. We eat manly food, raffle manly prizes, and enjoy a message just for men. We often have a well-known speaker from the world of professional sports or outdoors.
Men's LIFE Groups
These groups meet weekly throughout the year for Bible study, encouragement, prayer and accountability. If you are interested in being a part of a small group of men who are doing life together, growing in their walk with the Lord, and encouraging each other throughout the week, contact Todd Campbell.
Men of Prayer (MOP)
We know that God answers prayer, and we like to flank our prayer with good food, fun, and fellowship. Come join us each Thursday morning (Fridays during the summer) at 5:45am in the Fellowship Hall for prayer and breakfast. If you have any questions, please contact Lee Ferguson.
