Young & Median Adults
For those just out of college up to about age 65, our Young & Median Adult Ministry provides meaningful relationships and a variety of Bible study opportunities in different settings and teaching/learning styles. We also have additional ministry events that focus specifically on men, women, parenting, finances, recreation, etc.
We truly believe that our life in Christ is a group project, so it’s vitally important for us to get connected to others within our church family. Belonging to a group of believers who are mutually committed to caring for one another, growing in their faith, and impacting others for Jesus Christ is what biblical community and GroupLife is all about. Here are our group descriptions:
Ongoing groups that encourage connection with others and growth in God’s Word. These groups meet each Sunday morning at 9:30 & 11:00 at our Norwood campus. With a wide range of age, life-stage groups and varied teaching styles, there's a group here for you. Visit our Connection Groups Page and find one to check out.
These content-driven groups feature a variety of short-term (6-13 weeks) and long-term Bible study groups designed to equip you for life and ministry. These are groups like Financial Peace University, support groups (GriefShare & Re:generation), parenting groups, study groups, men’s & women’s groups, and fitness groups. These groups typically meet on Monday evenings (6:30-8:00pm w/ childcare), although some meet at other times throughout the week.
Verse-by-verse based groups that foster disciple-making through biblical community. DNA stands for Discover Nurture Act. Each time a group meets they will discover the truths of God's Word verse-by-verse, nurture the relationships in their group, and be encouraged to act on what they discover. These groups typically meet on Wednesday evenings (6:30-8:00pm w/ childcare & meal at 5:30pm) in the fall and spring, although some meet at other times throughout the week and year.
The Women's Ministry serves to encourage and inspire all the women of First Hurst. It is our desire that you feel deeply connected to the Lord and to other women. We want you to live in community with us as we do life together! (Hebrews 10:24-25) All year long, we have opportunities for you to get plugged in so please join us. We can't wait to meet you!
Once a year in the spring, the women of our church are invited to Shared Plates. We meet as small groups in homes for 6 weeks. Dinner is catered in, so there is no prep work, no homework, no hassles. All you need to do is show up…good food and great friends are already provided! This ministry appeals to all ages, and all types; working women, retired ladies, or stay at home moms. Every woman wants the occasional night off! This ministry focuses on building more intentional and intimate relationships between all ages of women at our church. You will love being a part of this incredible ministry! This is one of our favorite ministries! It is built around the following passages:
- Acts 2:42,46-47, "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers...and day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."
- Titus 2:3-5, "Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled."
Overseen by the Preschool Ministry, MOPS is dedicated to the message that "mothering matters," and that moms of young children need encouragement during these critical early years. Our MOPS program helps you find friendship and acceptance, provides places for real and open connection, and helps each mom experience God's love through relationships and resources.
Bliss is our annual spring event! If you need a refreshing break from the work week or just need to have a night out with friends, this is your night. We serve coffee and dessert and have a great time of fellowship while we listen to a fun, dynamic speaker. It is simple and beautiful!
Jingle & Mingle
How about turning the hustle and bustle of Christmas into an opportunity for worship? This is why Jingle and Mingle was designed! In the fall of each year, we host a beautiful and fun-filled night for ladies! The sanctuary is decorated, candles are lit and tables are designed to creative perfection. We invite you to come sit with your friends, have a lovely dinner, and a delicious dessert. You will love our singers/worship leaders and you’ll hear an inspiring message from our speaker. Many women have deemed this night an indisputable holiday tradition!
Every other year (usually even years), we have a “getaway” for our ladies. We head out to a hotel for one night so that our women can spend some alone time with the Lord and with each other. If you have something going on that you really need to pray over, or you just need to leave the business of life for 24 hours, this is the time to do it! We have a speaker walk us through several sessions during our weekend and then have a great time of laughing, bonding and relating on a deeper level.
On the off years from our retreat, (usually odd years) we have a really fun craft night! We pick out something creative, usually from Pinterest, and we get together at the church to make it. All of the materials that you will need are provided. (Most of the time, we give you color options too.) You simply show up, chat with friends, make your craft and go home with a something new and beautiful to keep in your home or to give as a gift. Even if you don’t feel like you received the “creativity gene”, don’t worry! We will have the experts there to help you! It is a really fun night!

The Pointmen Men's Ministry is guided by Paul's challenge to men in I Corinthians16:13-14, "Be on guard, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Do everything in love.” Through a variety of events ranging from ManChurch to enjoying the great outdoors, this community of men is committed to:
- becoming servant leaders in our homes, churches, and communities
- growing in Christ and the principles of our faith
- celebrating our uniqueness as men
- being courageous in the face of life's opportunities and challenges
- doing everything out of love for our God and for others
- sharing our life in Christ with one another
- enouraging the next generation
A few times each year the men of First Hurst and scores of guests gather for a unique time of worship specifically for men. We eat manly food, raffle manly prizes, and enjoy a message just for men. We often have a well-known speaker from the world of professional sports or outdoors.
These groups meet weekly throughout the year for Bible study, encouragement, prayer and accountability. If you are interested in being a part of a small group of men who are doing life together, growing in their walk with the Lord, and encouraging each other throughout the week, contact Todd Campbell.
Men of Prayer (MOP)
We know that God answers prayer, and we like to flank our prayer with good food, fun, and fellowship. Come join us each Thursday morning (Fridays during the summer) at 5:45am in the Fellowship Hall for prayer and breakfast. If you have any questions, please contact Lee Ferguson.
